Ordinary Faithfulness

Ordinary Faithfulness

As I sit here on my couch and finishing my coffee I look straight ahead at the mound of dishes in my sink, I am grasping for the motivation to get up and do the simple things I know I should. Can I just tell you, I hate housework! I REALLY DO! It is a discipline I am embracing. I tend to have no issue with motivation for the things that I deem important or major. I can muster up the energy to plan an event, meet with someone to encourage them, or pray because those things I enjoy. However, housework, ESPECIALLY dishes….not so much! As a matter of fact I loathe them. My husband usually does them for me because he knows this and it is his way of showing me love. I guess for some reason he didn’t really love me much the evening before! Kidding!

I sit here looking at the obvious and knowing it needs to be done, yet unwilling to move….UNTIL. I see the picture IMG_0626that I had intentionally placed above my sink that states. ORDINARY FAITHFULNESS IS THE STUFF OF MIRACLES. Faithfulness is a choice and when you are choosing faithfulness it is usually surrounded by things you do NOT want to do. Most people don’t want the ordinary things, they want the miracle. However, when you realize that faithfulness to the ordinary are the things that miracles are made of, it can change your perspective. With that inspiration in front of my face LITERALLY I washed my dishes. It was one of the sweetest times I have had doing a chore I hate. Here is story of ordinary faithfulness and it producing the miraculous.

There was mom whose day started before the break of dawn. She was up early and did the same chores she did every morning everyday. She made breakfast, home made bread, and prepared the food that her husband had brought home the night before. This particular morning was hard, the new baby had cried a little more then usual, and she was dragging, lacking the energy and desire to even care if anyone ate but she still knew she had work to do. After her morning routine of cooking breakfast, cleaning up, making lunches and getting everyone up for the day, she kissed her husband goodbye for his long day of labor. Her son of 10 came and ask if he could go to the next town where there was a large gathering and party being held. “EVERYONE was going!” he begged. She talked to her neighbors and found comfort in the invitation that he could go with them and they would watch over him. She didn’t want to tell I’m no and deny him this fun experience but the long night with the baby exhausted her. She knew he would be safe with them and to be honest welcomed the quiet that would come. So, she packed his lunch for the long day and and kissed him on the head saying, “Have a good time, be kind, and behave.”

The day passed on and the darkness came. Her son came home, different then he left. His countenance had
changed and there was a light in him that wasn’t there before. She couldn’t even ask about his uncontrollable excitement before he began to unfold his day. What seemed like nothing at that beginning of the day had turned into much more then anyone could have imagined. Her son told her how it was getting late and the crowds there hungry. How the “men in charge” were wanting to send everyone away, but the “boss” said “No, feed them.” They said it would cost to much. Then the men saw my lunch…the one you packed for me and asked if they could use it. I remembered what you said. Be kind. So I nodded yes and gave it to them. AND you WON’T BELIEVE what happened next!

5 loavesAs the boy finished his story, her unbelief was diminished as the neighbors confirmed what seemed like a childhood exageration. The mom wiped her tears of joy away, hugged him through his excitement, and told him how proud she was of his generosity.

As hard, as ordinary, and as uneventful as her day was she knew she had a part in the making of a miracle. The food that she had made for the little one that she loved, out of simple faithfulness that morning, was the miracle that her son experienced and delivered to many. The bread she had made that morning through her sleepy eyes and with her tired hands not only supplied his needs but the needs of thousands. Her ordinary labor of love was what the miracle came from. How many time have we not seen our ordinary faithfulness in the miracles all around us because we were not the ones there to experience. Yet, we still had a hand in it. Don’t discount ordinary faithfulness, for it is the stuff of miracles. Now I know this story is not found just like this in the Bible, but you never know what could have been. Regardless of the details, someone had to make the bread, catch the fish, and pack the lunch.

Life…Worst Cooks Style

Life…Worst Cooks Style

keep it simpleThe power of 3 is revealed. We ARE life producers. We ARE protectors. We ARE supporters. That right there is so huge you could read 100 books on each subject! But let’s be real, I need it simple. I need it simplified so that I can become the woman I was created to be. You can’t run before you walk, and you can’t walk before you crawl. So this is crawling… making sure we have the VITAL and simple basics down before we walk and run.

423883_279842955415534_1525705634_nAs most of you know I was on the TV show called “Worst Cooks in America” (season 3 for any interested in watching it). I didn’t know why God had opened this door but I knew He had, so I was determined to walk through it. It hands down was one the hardest yet most beneficial things I have ever done. I learned so much! What I discovered about myself and my cooking was…I had never learned the basics! I had never learned the fundamentals of cooking in the kitchen which made everything a big ole’ mess!…thus I gave up on cooking all together. I truly went in as a worst cook…and really I was ok with it. I was comfortable in my failure and had resigned to my limitations, but He was not. God was going to show me how He would take my greatest failures and weaknesses and turn them into one of my strongest for His Glory.

Through life I tried to be the “perfect wife”, ‘great mom”, and “godly woman”. I failed over and over miserably at all three. Over and over again, it just made me give up. I was a pretty good mom, an ok wife, and not so good godly woman. After worst cooks and learning how important the basics in life are…I began to apply the crawling basics I found in the Bible about how to be the woman He created me to be. If I learned anything from that show it’s that you can’t skip the fundamentals! You MUST know and practice the basics. I have practiced what I have learned from the show and even developed it into becoming a pretty good cook. I’m by no means a “TOP CHEF” but I can hold my own. And my family will testify that the food is MUCH better and they now theylove it when I cook.

Our l life is that way, We have to first learn how to protect, support, and produce the things we want and value in our life. If we want to become a Proverbs 31 kind of woman…these are the fundamental basics we must start with. Once you learn to crawl you can then walk. Walking out these fundamentals becomes the groundwork for running the race as a Proverbs 31 women.

You No Breathe….You No Live

You No Breathe….You No Live

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just need to take a deep breathe and stop for a moment. It’s amazing what slowing down and breathing in will do for you. It will relax you a bit, feed your body and mind with some much needed oxygen, and revitalize your thoughts. Your breath carries your life. You no breathe..you no live (yes I know if it’s horrible grammar but I like it.)

mouth2You are made to breathe…you are made to bring life forth in others. We all know that genetically women are made to carry life and produce babies. WHAT IF that’s not the ONLY way you have the ability to bring life forth? What if every word you said produced life? What if every time to spoke to someone those words came alive and into action? Would you be giving them life or taking it away?

One gift we have as women is to be life producers. We can physically, emotionally, and spiritually reproduce. We physically know how it works but do we know how to emotionally and spiritually? We can say we don’t believe it can happen, but what happens to a woman when she denies she’s pregnant?? Does that make the baby NOT exist? Whether you choose to acknowledge it or not, the outcome and result will still be evident in time. We will reproduce emotionally and spiritually to those around us, it is up to us WHAT we reproduce.

eggEmotional life is our emotional health. Most of us have been emotionally sick and not even known it. We have carried around hurt, guilt, shame, fear, anxiety, and depression that can make us emotionally chronically suppressed. That is what we will pass on in life if we don’t choose another way. You have the ability and choice to heal and become emotionally healthy. When we choose to do that, THEN we reproduce healthy emotional living to those around you. You can’t produce what you don’t have. If you have the egg(emotions) and no sperm(healing) then you can produce nothing. When healing meets our emotions, a healthy life is produced! If our emotions meet another “sperm” aka depression, anger or fear, then something totally different and dysfunctional result is produced. What will you choose to reproduce in you?

The emotional life inside of you will fertilize with whatever you allow it meet with, and that will be what is reproduced in and through your life.

Defying the gravity of life…with support

Defying the gravity of life…with support

braIt’s funny, when I think of support I think of a great bra. Must be the industry I am in. A great bra can make all the difference in the world on how you carry yourself and how things look. It can also help prevent back pain, bad posture, and the appearance of gravity taking over. It supports. It doesn’t change the things inside of it, but it does change how things are seen. We can do that!

As women, we can support others. We can lift them up, hold them firm, and help cut back on some of the pain that being drug down by life can cause. We can’t prevent life from happening, but we can come in and help support through it. UGH! What happens when a bra pinches and digs? is to tight? You want that thing OFF!! We should support, not suffocate and make uncomfortable. At times, we can’t cling so tightly to those that we love that they can’t breath or move the way they should. This is when we become a hazard instead of a helper.

bra3Finding the right bra is a process. You have to find the right length around, the right cup size, material, etc. It can be frustrating and daunting. If you just grab the first one off the shelf without knowing what to look for you could wind up with double boobage and nobody needs that!

Some people are so uniquely made that they must have a custom bra made for them. We are the same way. Some of us are much more effective for the general public, some of us custom for those special people that need a little more support. We must know who we are, how we support, so we can do what we were made to do. Being a supporter isn’t a 2nd class role, it’s a vital need that we all have. What kind of a supporter are you? Are you adjustable to the needs of others? or Are you specifically made for a certain type? Are you made to handle the fast movers and shakers? or do you simply add to and uplift those that need some extra enhancement?

To be a supporter is to be an uplifter. Lift them up to the ONE that can keep them up. Prayer is the faucet that holds the entire support process together. Without a hook to secure a bra it simply flops. Without prayer to secure our support….it simply well I’m thinking you got the hint.

Prayer works.

Have you ever just needed a reminder of who you are? What you are made of? I mean, life is hard and can snow-blind you with craziness at times. Ok maybe that’s just me. I am finding myself needing to go back to the basics and remind myself exactly what lies in me. What has grown? What has the potential to grow? What can change me, and others? I know it’s there. I’ve searched it out and found some of the basic internal traits that ALL women have, but sometimes I need to be reminded where my beauty and strength lies and what that TRULY looks like! So, join me in going back to the basics. Simple postings, to simply remind us and inspire us of the best we can be, from the inside out.

lynda-carter-in-the-original-wonder-woman-costumeWhat we are made of ?! I know it’s mainly water, for all you analytical scientists out there, LOL! But what bone strength, infused DNA do I have in me that will help me carry all that life brings my way? Here are a few things I know. I know you and I, and every woman out there, were made with the ability to do 3 things. Protect, support, and bring forthSo, for the next few posts we will talk those three things. Being a protector and what that means, a supporter, and a life producer.

Wonder woman! Protector of all humanity…okay well maybe not in that red cape and star panty kinda way, but we do have the ability to protect. But protect what? Ourselves? Our kids? Our families? And AGAINST what? Does this mean opening a can of whoop on anyone that hurts our babies? No. That’s usually our response AFTER something hurtful happens. The purpose is to prevent and help protect as much as we can before it happens. Now, I know that we can’t always prevent it but we can be the ones NOT inducing it, and we can do some prevention.

wwI have found one of the most important things I can protect and cover is the heart. When the heart is damaged it effects everything and everyone around it. We can protect the hearts and emotions of those around us by using words that are uplifting, kind, gentle, and peace producing. Just like wonder woman we can hep deflect and protect by standing and using what we have. Wonder woman rarely said anything when she stood in front of those she was protecting, she simply stood and reflected the attack away from getting to them. Prayer does that. Prayer prevents and reflects an attack, but only if someone is willing to stand and raise their arms up to do it. We are protectors.

Protecting others by what we say(or don’t say) is our responsibility in not to hurting the heart.

Protection in how we pray is our ability and strength to prevent it.

Are you walking or riding?

Are you walking or riding?

hail mary throw “All you can do now is pray.” I have heard this statement so many times. Heck, I have SAID this statement so many time! When we say that, it’s usually means we have NOTHING else we can do. We are powerless. So, as a last ditch effort we will do what is left, pray. Can I tell you how many years I have done this?! I have since learned a little more about how prayer actually works. It’s not a hail mary throw, hoping it will make it across a court, and SWOOOOOOSH hit in the basket for the WIN! However, that’s how most of us approach it.

Prayer is getting from point A to point B. Humor me a bit. Say I have a circumstance that I need God to intervene in, or a relationship I need Him to touch. Whatever I am bringing before Him in prayer. Prayer is the vehicle that get us to the miraculous. I can go outside and sit in my car….but if I don’t turn it on it will go no where. Right? Well, if we don’t pray we get no where.

gasIf you don’t have gas in your car, what happens? It goes no where. The Word is what fuels our prayer and feeds it to get us where we need it to go. NO WORD….No power in your prayer...you go no where. So, now we are set in our prayer. We are fueling it regularly with the Word so we can move. It doesn’t just automatically go forward, does it? NO. We have to push the gas pedal. We have to use our faith to move forward knowing that the internal spiritual structure that has been put together by the creator and designer to power the vehicle to move forward, will work. If we don’t push in faith, with the expectation of getting where we want to go, we will sit still in prayer.

HOW do we get there? I don’t know about you but before GPS I was lost! ALL THE TIME! Now, when I drive to a job, I have help getting there. Driving really was more stressful for me before GPS. The Holy Spirit is our life GPS. If we listen to him then we can make it to our ending as quickly as possible, but if we decide to take our own off road short cuts…..well, we all know how that goes.

Prayer...we are in it.moving forward….following directions….but it’s TAKING SOOOOOOOO LONG! Anyone ever have of traffic delays? If you have ever traveled anywhere in or near Houston area, you have. Sometimes we are sitting on the highway just waiting…and waiting…AND WAITING…and we have NO IDEA WHY! It’s frustrating huh! To sit and not know why the freeway is stopped and not going like it should be when you have a destination to get to! And most of the time, it has nothing to do with us, our journey, trafficor where we are going. It just happens. Do you get out of your car on the freeway and walk away? No that would be silly. Why would we abandon something so valuable just because of a traffic jam, yet so many of us do this in prayer. You wait, or if possible take a different route that the GPS shows you, but you still keep going. Delays….they just happen, in prayer and in life. If you listen to the Holy Spirit they can be avoided at times, but we have all sat there frustrated when they couldn’t be avoided. We don’t quit, we just learn to become patient in the things we have to drive through in life…. in prayer.

When I know my route, it seems so much quicker to my destination. If I have a job I go to daily or on a regular basis I know the route, the time delays, and the backroads because of my experience on that route. Same with prayer. There are certain routes we can pray into and because of our experience there, having gotten answers, been through the delays, we know how to navigate it better. I don’t know about you, but when I take a route or go to a place that I have never been before, it seems like it TAKES FOREVER! It may not be any longer then the other routes I am use to, but because it is unfamiliar to me it appears that at times I may be lost or that my destination will never get there.

GPSGPS it’s a wonderful thing. The great think about a GPS is I don’t have to be familiar with the road, I just need to know that the GPS will get me there. I trust that this modern day technology will be accurate and take me the most efficient route. I know natural GPS is flawed but the Holy Spirit is not. He will route us the right direction to get us to where we driving in prayer. Sometimes, he takes us off the freeway to avoid delays and we don’t understand why because we can’t see the overall map and picture. Sometimes we just sit and wait through the delays. Sometimes we make a straight shot to our answered prayers on the highway of life.

If we ever want to get anywhere in life we must take the most powerful effective way. A life of prayer. walking vs drivingNot a last resort, but the first approach. You wouldn’t walk to work or across the city would you? That almost sounds absurd now in days. Walking is us taking on life, our own way, without any power behind us. Walking through life is US using US with our own natural abilities to get where we want to be. Depending upon on our own two feet. That my dear, makes for a long destination to get to places. I wouldn’t get far and if I did it would take 10x’s as long! Not to mention the toll it would take on my body….no thank you. So walk or ride?

Prayer is our ride through life if we will use it, fuel it, drive it, and guide it we will make each destination we set out for.
