BACK TO THE BASICS

BACK TO THE BASICS

Have you ever just needed a reminder of who you are? What you are made of? I mean, life is hard and can snow-blind you with craziness at times. Ok maybe that’s just me. I am finding myself needing to go back to the basics and remind myself exactly what lies in me. What has grown? What has the potential to grow? What can change me, and others? I know it’s there. I’ve searched it out and found some of the basic internal traits that ALL women have, but sometimes I need to be reminded where my beauty and strength lies and what that TRULY looks like! So, join me in going back to the basics. Simple postings, to simply remind us and inspire us of the best we can be, from the inside out.

lynda-carter-in-the-original-wonder-woman-costumeWhat we are made of ?! I know it’s mainly water, for all you analytical scientists out there, LOL! But what bone strength, infused DNA do I have in me that will help me carry all that life brings my way? Here are a few things I know. I know you and I, and every woman out there, were made with the ability to do 3 things. Protect, support, and bring forthSo, for the next few posts we will talk those three things. Being a protector and what that means, a supporter, and a life producer.

Wonder woman! Protector of all humanity…okay well maybe not in that red cape and star panty kinda way, but we do have the ability to protect. But protect what? Ourselves? Our kids? Our families? And AGAINST what? Does this mean opening a can of whoop on anyone that hurts our babies? No. That’s usually our response AFTER something hurtful happens. The purpose is to prevent and help protect as much as we can before it happens. Now, I know that we can’t always prevent it but we can be the ones NOT inducing it, and we can do some prevention.

wwI have found one of the most important things I can protect and cover is the heart. When the heart is damaged it effects everything and everyone around it. We can protect the hearts and emotions of those around us by using words that are uplifting, kind, gentle, and peace producing. Just like wonder woman we can hep deflect and protect by standing and using what we have. Wonder woman rarely said anything when she stood in front of those she was protecting, she simply stood and reflected the attack away from getting to them. Prayer does that. Prayer prevents and reflects an attack, but only if someone is willing to stand and raise their arms up to do it. We are protectors.

Protecting others by what we say(or don’t say) is our responsibility in not to hurting the heart.

Protection in how we pray is our ability and strength to prevent it.

Are you walking or riding?

Are you walking or riding?

hail mary throw “All you can do now is pray.” I have heard this statement so many times. Heck, I have SAID this statement so many time! When we say that, it’s usually means we have NOTHING else we can do. We are powerless. So, as a last ditch effort we will do what is left, pray. Can I tell you how many years I have done this?! I have since learned a little more about how prayer actually works. It’s not a hail mary throw, hoping it will make it across a court, and SWOOOOOOSH hit in the basket for the WIN! However, that’s how most of us approach it.

Prayer is getting from point A to point B. Humor me a bit. Say I have a circumstance that I need God to intervene in, or a relationship I need Him to touch. Whatever I am bringing before Him in prayer. Prayer is the vehicle that get us to the miraculous. I can go outside and sit in my car….but if I don’t turn it on it will go no where. Right? Well, if we don’t pray we get no where.

gasIf you don’t have gas in your car, what happens? It goes no where. The Word is what fuels our prayer and feeds it to get us where we need it to go. NO WORD….No power in your prayer...you go no where. So, now we are set in our prayer. We are fueling it regularly with the Word so we can move. It doesn’t just automatically go forward, does it? NO. We have to push the gas pedal. We have to use our faith to move forward knowing that the internal spiritual structure that has been put together by the creator and designer to power the vehicle to move forward, will work. If we don’t push in faith, with the expectation of getting where we want to go, we will sit still in prayer.

HOW do we get there? I don’t know about you but before GPS I was lost! ALL THE TIME! Now, when I drive to a job, I have help getting there. Driving really was more stressful for me before GPS. The Holy Spirit is our life GPS. If we listen to him then we can make it to our ending as quickly as possible, but if we decide to take our own off road short cuts…..well, we all know how that goes.

Prayer...we are in it.moving forward….following directions….but it’s TAKING SOOOOOOOO LONG! Anyone ever have of traffic delays? If you have ever traveled anywhere in or near Houston area, you have. Sometimes we are sitting on the highway just waiting…and waiting…AND WAITING…and we have NO IDEA WHY! It’s frustrating huh! To sit and not know why the freeway is stopped and not going like it should be when you have a destination to get to! And most of the time, it has nothing to do with us, our journey, trafficor where we are going. It just happens. Do you get out of your car on the freeway and walk away? No that would be silly. Why would we abandon something so valuable just because of a traffic jam, yet so many of us do this in prayer. You wait, or if possible take a different route that the GPS shows you, but you still keep going. Delays….they just happen, in prayer and in life. If you listen to the Holy Spirit they can be avoided at times, but we have all sat there frustrated when they couldn’t be avoided. We don’t quit, we just learn to become patient in the things we have to drive through in life…. in prayer.

When I know my route, it seems so much quicker to my destination. If I have a job I go to daily or on a regular basis I know the route, the time delays, and the backroads because of my experience on that route. Same with prayer. There are certain routes we can pray into and because of our experience there, having gotten answers, been through the delays, we know how to navigate it better. I don’t know about you, but when I take a route or go to a place that I have never been before, it seems like it TAKES FOREVER! It may not be any longer then the other routes I am use to, but because it is unfamiliar to me it appears that at times I may be lost or that my destination will never get there.

GPSGPS it’s a wonderful thing. The great think about a GPS is I don’t have to be familiar with the road, I just need to know that the GPS will get me there. I trust that this modern day technology will be accurate and take me the most efficient route. I know natural GPS is flawed but the Holy Spirit is not. He will route us the right direction to get us to where we driving in prayer. Sometimes, he takes us off the freeway to avoid delays and we don’t understand why because we can’t see the overall map and picture. Sometimes we just sit and wait through the delays. Sometimes we make a straight shot to our answered prayers on the highway of life.

If we ever want to get anywhere in life we must take the most powerful effective way. A life of prayer. walking vs drivingNot a last resort, but the first approach. You wouldn’t walk to work or across the city would you? That almost sounds absurd now in days. Walking is us taking on life, our own way, without any power behind us. Walking through life is US using US with our own natural abilities to get where we want to be. Depending upon on our own two feet. That my dear, makes for a long destination to get to places. I wouldn’t get far and if I did it would take 10x’s as long! Not to mention the toll it would take on my body….no thank you. So walk or ride?

Prayer is our ride through life if we will use it, fuel it, drive it, and guide it we will make each destination we set out for.

Are you fighting WITH someone or FOR someone?

Are you fighting WITH someone or FOR someone?

imageHave you ever had those days that you spent the entire day fighting with someone you love? Discussing issues and decision, sharing feelings and disappointments, and just flat out being afraid of the choices they are making?! I have. I actually did just recently and let me tell you, as usual it got us no where but hurt and upset. Now here me, I’m not saying don’t communicate your feeling or discuss issues. I’m simply bringing you a food for thought BEFORE you do.

There are so many people we have relationships with and care about that are adults with their own free will. Whether it be friends, parents, our children, or extended family, we can influence their decision, not make it for them. I mean, it would be easier of we could make it for them…but we can’t. When you are seeing the ones you love make decision that you know are either dangerous or unhealthy it scares you. Usually because you have been there and done that, and know what the consequences to those actions are. What if they don’t hear you? or want to listen to you? or worse you are the source of their rebellion? I mean I had a child that if I said the sky was blue she would say, ” Actually it’s white with clouds and blue just peeking out. Not even really peeking out, it’s barely visible behind all those clouds.  So really , mom, the sky is white today.” Her perception of things and mine were very different , to say the least. So for her to “hear” any advice I had usually backfired like bad fireworks!

forgot to pray
I found myself the other day attempting to talk to my husband about things that were happening and issues I felt we were having due to just how hard life has been in this last season. I wanted to openly communicate so we could quickly and easily regain the ground I felt we had lost. Which in theory isn’t a bad thing, except I forgot one vital part. Prayer. You may be thinking, prayer? what’s that got to do with it? EVERYTHING!! You see, the things I was talking to him about were things we have already walked through and overcome, yet it felt like we had regressed, gone backwards a bit. Well, here was my mistake. I ended up fighting WITH him over it, instead of FOR him in it.

When you have come out of something, overcome an issue, or grown out of certain behaviors you have authority over it. It can try to come back and take back over. I mean the enemy has every right to try and take back the ground he had in your life before. He has every right to try and distract you by getting your eye off of Jesus and onto the circumstances and issues round you. The enemy wants to come in and try to kill your marriage, steal your relationships with your children, and destroy your family!! He so can and WILL….if you allow him to.

warAnd this my friend is where righteous anger and momma bear claws come out! This was what I forgot. I forgot to go to my prayer closet and take authority over then things that so slyly was trying to creep back in to try and take over. I forgot to plead the blood of Christ over the unintentional hurts and wound I had received and given. I forgot to use the Word to remind the enemy that he has no place in my marriage, my childrens’ lives, or my family. I forgot to FIGHT for them instead of with them. Not again. Not again will the enemy be allowed to cause discord in my home and relationships. He doesn’t get to define my children with circumstantial evidence because the FACT is they are redeemed and cover in the blood, highly favored, and God fearing, loving children of the most high!

Oh friends, I could go on and on but I will take that to my prayer room for war! Don’t allow the enemy to reek fear and havoc in your life, your family, or relationships. Take the Word and use it in authority FOR your life and loved ones. Stop allowing the enemy to manipulate you into fighting the wrong battles. Fight FOR your loved in your closet, that’s the greatest power you hold for change. Boxing gloves on…my eyes set on my Jesus…and my words to Him and not them. Fighting FOR them.

Altered Reality or Unaltered Reality

Altered Reality or Unaltered Reality

truth as I see itLet me propose a question to you. Would you alter someones reality and life if you could? Let me explain. Think of someone you love dearly, someone who has a part of your heart that you love unconditionally. Perhaps they have made not to great life choices. Perhaps they have experienced some pain you could not help them avoid. Perhaps they are in a relationship with someone that you think isn’t good for them or you are not not fond of. Perhaps it’s all of this and much more. Would you, if given the opportunity, alter their reality and their life for the better if given the chance? Say they suddenly had amnesia and couldn’t remember certain things from the past, and when asked you could change how they viewed things….in their life…in their relationships for “the better”. Would you do it? Would you tell them the truth and let the chips fall as they may?

I had this presented to me and I had to really think, what would I do? We all want the best for those we love. We want them to be happy, healthy, and in great relationships with awesome people, right? Would I tell them the truth as I see it? Even if it is painful to them and would destroy the reality of what they have now and how they view life and the people in it? Would I tell them what I thought they needed to hear to have what I would consider a better situation and relationship or would I tell them what they needed to hear to keep their reality as it is. If I tell them “the truth”(according to me) then their life certainly would change. The opinion they had of this person, or that situation would certainly be different then what I thought. OR would I tell them what I knew they felt and thought to be in the reality and life they now have. Tough one. You wouldn’t think it would be, but it is.

prideThis one challenge made me think deep and hard, how prideful am I to think that my opinion matters so much that I have the RIGHT to change the reality of the ones I love so much? Even if I can see it is harmful, or that they deserve “more”, the truth is they have the right to live the life they have chosen and made, regardless of my opinion of it. AND IF there is a relationship involved, I don’t have the right to harm it or change it with my word or opinions(even if in my view it is the truth and right). Can we truly say we love someone without asking ourself, “God, what do they need to hear? What is best for them” before we speak? Can we set our flesh, our opinions, our desire for that person aside and trust the Father to answer what they need vs. standing on our own accord to state and speaking what we think they need?

It’s not my place to change someones reality and life, it’s God’s. So, if I truly love you, I will seek Him first to answer and love you they way HE know you need it, not simply the way I may think you need it. Humility produces for others, while pride destroys.

Toilet Plunger and DustPan Christians

Toilet Plunger and DustPan Christians

If you don’t know, I am a straight forward, cut to the chase kind of person. I like things presented to me in a “no ruffles” kind on way. I have however noticed that in the church we tend to fluff things up a bit to make them a little “easier to swallow” or a little “more palatable” for the general public. There is nothing wrong with this, as long as the Biblical truths stay just that, truths. I just happen to be the kind that prefers an in your face approach. Secrets of the Secret Place by Bob Sorge writes just like that. A clear cut, no frills approach to an intimate growth with God. It is not a read for the easily offended, but for those who are willing to hear real truths and do whatever it takes to grow a more intimate relationship with God. This book is awesome.

In his book Bob gives direct, easy to read, and short ways to become closer to God. This is not a salvation issue, but a growth plan. I encourage you to look into this book. I just finished Chapt. 5 The Secret to Rapid Repentance. I know what your thinking, I repent daily! DO YOU? After you have been a Christian while you learn the “what not to do’s.”

You learn to “kill the flesh” as the church world would say. You don’t sin. No lying, stealing, fornication, pornography, hatred, drunkenness, or not tithing(yes that’s a sin). Those sins are so obvious that you don’t even need the conviction of the Holy Spirit to know your in disobedience. So your a “good Christian”, trying hard to please the Father in all you do, and don’t do. However, have you ever thought of repenting of your iniquities? Do you even know what that is? Bob, explained it the best way I have heard in this chapter.

“I’m not talking about obvious sins; I am talking about repenting of our iniquities. Iniquities are the hidden faults that we don’t see, the wicked residue of our fallen nature that discolors the fabric of our thoughts, motives, feelings, responses, and desires. Iniquities are wrapped up in much more subtle area of sinfulness, such as pride, rebellion, unbelief, envy, selfishness, ambition, and covetousness.”

OUCH! We have to learn to become a good repenter is we want to move forward in God. “If pride hinders you from repenting, get over it. You’re a wretch. You need mercy so badly, it’s scary. Wise up and master the art of repentance. Call your sin its worst possible terms. Grovel. Eat Dust.” I told this book didn’t mince words and wasn’t for the easily offended. He continues to write, “We all have hidden pockets of iniquities, and we all need God’s help to see them. You can’t repent of something you don’t see, so God will help you see them. Paul says in 2 Timothy 2:19-21, that the Christian life is founded on two powerful realities: We are known by Christ, and we depart from iniquity when we see it.”

“When we repent quickly of those thing God’s word is revealing, we experience the pleasure of the Father in a palatable way…A consistent pattern of rapid repentance will cause us to become a vessel of gold or silver, refined by the fire, useful for the Masters noble services. Those who resist repentance do not necessarily lose their salvation, it’s just they do not progress beyond a vessel of wood or clay. They are useful to the Master only for dishonorable purposes(in the great house there is a need even for a toilet plunger and dust pans.)” OUCH!

“The assurance of the above passage is clear: Rapid repentance from iniquity will cause us to progress forward to a more noble purpose in God’s great house and will deepen our knowing relationship with Him.

Enough said, Selah.
